First Night of VBS

Well folks, the summer has finally arrived. You know it is summer by the sound of running children, the smell of exhaust fumes from church buses and church vans, and the smell of cookies and kool-aide. That's right vacation bible school is finally here. Tonight was our first vacation bible school/camp of the summer and we spent it in my home town of Columbus. I must confess that it feels a little strange to go back to the church that I grew up in and now minister to the children of kids I hung out with. Growing up in Columbus meant that Linda Taylor was the one who did VBS. I must admit that there are many things that I learned from Sis Taylor so I guess you could say that although she is not there this year in a way she is because she left a little part of her in me.

Tonight was great with all the kids and the excitement of a new theme for the Davis family. The had hoped for 52 kids this first night but they surpassed it with 57. I have challenged the kids that if they can get 85 kids by Thursday night that they can make me into a human smore...Chocolate, marsh mellows, and graham crackers. If you can image that on a hot summer evening. I had better go to bed. I left my wife and boys in Columbus because I have to go to work tomorrow (Tuesday) and am off the rest of the week. Please pray for us and for the church in Columbus that this week will be fruitful. Our goal is not for us to be seen and remembered, but to plant the seeds for the kingdom.

10 Wonderful Years

To day I celebrate 10 wonderfully filled years of marriage to the most beautiful blonde in the world. 10 years of love, 10 years of laughter, 10 years of happiness, 10 years of her beauty. Just a little info to think about:

We have been married 10 years
We have been married 3,457 days
We have been married 82,968 hours
We have been married 4,978,080 minutes

We have traveled 1,000's of miles together
We have traveled to 15 states
We have been to Canada many times
We have spent every summer of our married life traveling and doing vacation Bible Schools/Camps
We have consumed more calories than my calculator would figure
I have gained 45 pounds since we were married
My pants size has increased by XXXXXXX (guess)
I have attended college twice for two different degrees since we've been married

We have been through two cars each since we've been married.
We have lived in one house and one apartment.
Everything that we own we have accumulated together.
We have been poor together and a little better than poor.

We have laughed together
We have cried together
We have disagreed together
We have agreed together

You have laughed at me and I have laugh with you
We have dreamed together
We have tried to sing together
We have humiliated our self together (That was the singing part)

Together we have grown
Together we have lived a wonderful life
Together we have built a family
Together we will be forever!!!!!

I love you!!

Thank You

I would personally like to thank each of you for the prayers that have been uttered, the kind words that have been spoken, the cards that were sent and to those that showed up for the viewing and the funeral for my brother Brian.

The past few days have been unreal to me personally and I felt as though I was walking through that valley of the shadow of death. I have heard from all over the country how many of you and your churches have been praying for us and you will never know what that means to know that in my weakness there are those that are holding me up. I must say a very special thank you to Jonathan and Karen Walden for allowing us to stay in their home. They were going through their own stress and struggles with the flooding and Karen's job and I appreciate you opening your home to us. Please know that your kindness and your hospitality in our time of sorrow will never be forgotten. To my church family who made that long trek from Frankfort to Columbus to give love and support please know that I love each of you as my own flesh and blood and I truly, truly appreciated each of you coming to the visitation. Thank you Bro and Sis Mowery for making that trip twice (the viewing and the funeral). Thank you to those who made it to the viewing. My family and I appreciated your presence with us these past few days. To my wife I owe a great big thank you for being there to hold me up and for supporting me in one of my weakest hours. Having you by my side meant everything to me. I love and truly appreciate you. I feel as though I owe the greatest thanks to God for allowing us to know that my brother had prayed in the past few months and accepted God as his personal Savior.

The last few days have been an emotional roller coaster, but in the end I have drawn from the fact that all those prayers prayed were not in vain. Today my brother, Brian Paul Davis, is in the presence of his Creator.

A few hours before my brother's death he was talking to my mom about losing everything that he owned due to the flood. My brother made the following statement "I don't know why God has allowed all of this to happen, but maybe He's trying to draw me closer." What my brother did not know was that in just a matter of hours God would draw him closer than he ever imagined. My brother lost everything and yet he gained so much more.

Again, thanks to each of you and thank you God for your faithfulness.
